Global Clean Energy Investment Nearly Doubles in Second Quarter

Global clean energy investments reached $24.3 billion in the second quarter of 2009, up 83% relative to the first quarter, with investors putting money into renewable energy projects and stock offerings, according to New Energy Finance. But investment remains weak in the United States, at only $1.6 billion.

“Cash for Clunkers” Rebate Program Gets Rolling

Officially known as the Car Allowance Rebate System, the "cash for clunkers" program officially took effect on July 24. It will cut the cost of new cars by up to $4,500 for those who trade in their used, inefficient vehicles and allow them to be scrapped.

DOE-Funded Clean Energy Research Projects Win 19 R&D 100 Awards

United States and China to Cooperate on Climate Change and Energy

The United States and China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on climate change, energy, and the environment, sparking new cooperation to accelerate the world's transition to a low-carbon economy. The MOU was one result of the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue.

Obama Administration Awards More than $54 Million for State Energy Programs in Four States and Territories

DOE, Agriculture Department to Award $6.3 million for Biofuels Research

At Half-Way Point, 2009 is the Fifth Warmest Year on Record

The first six months of 2009 rank as the fifth warmest half-year on record, tying with 2004 and falling just 0.09?C below the 1998 record. The second half of the year is expected to be even warmer, however, as an El Ni?o event officially started in June.

DOE Awards $47 Million in Recovery Act Funding for Smart Grids

Recovery Act funds are accelerating projects in Colorado, Hawaii, and Illinois to integrate clean energy technologies and distributed energy resources into the power grid, including an effort to use self-sufficient power networks called microgrids.
