California Accelerates its Pursuit of Clean Energy

California is using a two-pronged approach in committing to clean energy, with the governor mandating that a third of the state's electricity come from renewable energy by 2020, while the state's utility commission is backing a $3.1 billion budget for energy efficiency over the next three years.

DOE Delivers $106 Million for Energy Efficiency in Nine States

To help lower energy use and carbon pollution, as well as to create green jobs, DOE has delivered $106 million in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants to Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Vermont, and Virginia.

Recovery Act Helps to Fund Transmission Line for Montana Wind Power

DOE is helping the development of wind power in Montana by supporting a transmission line that runs from Great Falls, Montana, to Alberta, Canada. Recovery Act funds will back $161 million in loans for the project, which is expected to spark the development of a new 300-megawatt wind project.

HUD Grants $300 million in Recovery Act Funds for Green Housing

G20 Nations Commit to Phase Out Fossil Fuel Subsidies

The leaders of 20 key countries from throughout the world have agreed to phase out "inefficient" fossil fuel subsidies over the medium term. The Group of 20, or G20, noted recent studies that predict a 10% reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 if the subsidies are eliminated.
